Mark J. Stewart

B.A, M.A, LL.B

Mark J. Stewart obtained his bachelor of laws from City St. George, University of London, UK. He also holds a master of arts from the University of Ottawa and a bachelor of arts from the University of Guelph. Mark joined HHL Law Firm in 2025 after having started his own law practice when he was called to the bar in 2016 and is a member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.

In his law practice, Mark has acted for clients before the Ontario Superior Court, including both the Small Claims and Divisional Courts, and the Ontario Court of Justice.

Mark has also taught classes in civil litigation and business law at Seneca Polytechnic.

Before becoming a lawyer, Mark was a speechwriter at a large Canadian bank and a Legislative Assistant to two Members of Parliament in Ottawa. He has also worked as an English and business language instructor in Tokyo, Japan.

An active community volunteer, Mark is the vice-chair of the board of directors of Newmakeit, a creative and learning space for York Region and is a member of the board of directors of the Sarcoma Cancer Foundation of Canada. He is a past member of the board of directors of the Education Quality and Assessment Office (EQAO), a provincial crown agency.

Mark grew up in Caledon and has lived in Newmarket since 2021, after wife (herself from Aurora) suggested they “go home”. In his spare time he enjoys painting and drawing, personal fitness and taking in the occasional baseball game.
